Creating a More Authentic Feed on Instagram
Margaret Fan
The Problem
Users attempt to find relatable content, but end up comparing themselves to others.

How might we facilitate a more connected and authentic experience on Instagram?

Needs and Significance
Users want their feed curated to their interests and content that they find relatable.
Insights from User Research
"I usually [feel] drained and guilty."

"I often compare my life to the life people show online."

Due to content not being catered to users’ interests, they cannot find relatable content and end up comparing themselves to the people who appear on their For You Page.

Divergent Methods
I chose to focus on a user like Uriel because he does not feel represented or inspired by the content he sees on his feed or For You Page.

Insights & Changes to Mid-Fidelity Prototyping
Based on the feedback I received, I bolded the question, “What do you want to see on your fyp?” to let the user know what the emphasis on the page is. While I was working on my hi-fidelity prototypes, I also included the user’s profile photo on the interest page because I think it looks better than just having their username floating.
